SENIOR DIRECTOR - Membership & Business Development


Vietnamese American Business Association is looking for a talented, experienced and highly motivated sales professional to help drive our ambitious plans. The ideal candidate is a client-oriented individual that is target-driven, is able to communicate in Vietnamese and English effectively with clients, has a passion for building relationships and excellent customer service, and aligns with VABA’s Big IDEA to provide the best support, advocacy, and networking opportunities for businesses to thrive.


 VP of Business Development reports to President. Together with VABA Directors, VP of Business Development to develop strategies to grow association membership, develop fundraising strategies and implement strategic plans, as well as develop and execute sales & marketing plan to distribute our client’s products.


 Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop innovative sales strategies to achieve membership goals and sales goals

  • Prospect potential clients through professional networks, marketing initiatives, cold-calling, email &/or social media

  • Qualify and nurture leads within the scope of the company’s requirements

  • Develop meaningful relationships with clients to promote trust and loyalty

  • Prepare regular sales reports as well as sales territory and marketing plans in collaboration with the Executive Director

  • Prepare and execute sales pitches

  • Negotiate sales and service renewal contracts

  • Conduct post-sales follow up calls in a timely and professional manner to maintain a relationship of loyalty and trust and to ensure any concerns are resolved for client

  • Record opportunities and conversion on central database

  • Achieve established sales goals for new business within assigned areas

  • Research competitors’ products, pricing, and product success to determine client preferences

  • Expand industry knowledge by attending educational workshops and reading professional publications

  • Support training new Sales Representatives when necessary

  • Support less experienced Sales Representative(s) as needed

  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor degree. MBA degree is a plus.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows



  • 5-7 years of experience in Business Development, Sales, or Marketing

  • Prior membership development experience is a plus

  • Proven success in achieving sales goals

  • High level of sales activity

  • Strong presentation ability to disseminate information to clients, staff, management and additional groups as needed

  • Exhibit a comfort level working with key people in organizations

  • Discretion when handling confidential information


Essential Requirements

  • Fluent in English and Vietnamese

  • Travelling ability up to 30%

  • Inter-state business traveling

  • Flexibility working hours such as weekends and holidays

The position is full time permanent, mainly working at San Jose and Oakland Office, CA.

Pay: $100,000 per year
